Line Break Systems

Most line breaks are used on natural gas transmission lines at river crossings and other potentially hazardous areas. The ATI "gas line break system" uses one tank as a reference tank and the pipeline pressure on the other side. The ATI liquid line break uses an accumulator for the compressibility of the nitrogen. As the product in the pipeline increases in pressure, the nitrogen is compressed and the hydraulic fluid flows through the restriction and the check valve into the accumulator. As the product pressure decreases the fluid reverses flow but can only pass through the restriction. If the flow becomes too great the differential will increase to the point of tripping the valve and closing the actuator.

The system attached can be used for liquid or gas and always has clean hydraulic fluid in the control components, It is the rate of pressure drop over time that trips the system.
